As players prepare to take a myriad ofMortal Kombat 11characters into battle, more details about NetherRealm Studios' upcoming fighting game continue to surface. One such new detail was revealed just yesterday, and it is certain to leave a portion of the player base quite disappointed.
Specifically, Warner Bros. has confirmed that “Mortal Kombat 11will not release in the Indonesian market.” This information comes following a fan on Twitter’s inquiry about the cancellation of the game’s release in Indonesia.
The Warner Bros. tweet continues by elaborating that the company needs to “ensure that [it is] compliant with local laws within that country,” though details on how Warner Bros. andMortal Kombat 11are in violation of Indonesian law have not been clarified. That said, it stands to reason that the title’s hyper-violence may play some part.
Indeed, the videos and imagery fromMortal Kombat 11that have been thus far released suggest that the title will be one of the most gruesome in the franchise. This statement certainly comes with strong implications considering how well established extreme gore is in the series.
This level of violence is readily apparent in a number ofMortal Kombat 11trailers, which have featured the fatalities of several of the game’scharacters, including those of D’Vorah, Kitana, and Shao Kahn. In these videos, fans have been treated to gruesome sights, ranging from a brutal bludgeoning to an insect emerging from a character’s torso, and there are certain to be many more in the full game.
Of course,Mortal Kombat 11fatalities are not the only source of serious savagery in the game. For example, Fatal Blows, like the one in Jax’s arsenal, also look to showcase some truly violent assaults, and these will come in the midst of a standard match.
Unfortunately, players in Indonesia that were excited to experience this brutality firsthand, on theMortal Kombat 11release date, will not have the opportunity to do so. That said, the tweet from Warner Bros. does state that the “decision may be further reviewed at a later date,” and thus not all hope is lost for this group of fans.
Mortal Kombat 11will launch on April 23 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
