My Hero Academia’s manga ending was a bit controversial with fans for a variety of reasons, some valid and some less so. Now, however, there’s news that the final season of the anime will be adding new scenes, which could change the ending’s reception substantially. Still, will these changes be enough to win over fans?

Without getting too into spoilers, fans who were unhappy with the manga’s ending often claim that the final battle is disappointing in several different ways, while the character resolution afterward isn’t up to par with what fans expected after 10 years of story. New scenes could definitely help change both these points.

My Hero Academia’s Final Season to Receive New Scenes

Horikoshi Worked With Bones Himself to Create New Scenes

According toreports by comicbook.com, Horikoshi gave a special message to those in attendance at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles this past weekend, explaining that in the time since the manga ended, he has been working with Bones, the animation studio behind the anime, to create new scenes for the final season.

These new scenes are said to add “emotional layers to the performances,” to quote Horikoshi’s message directly. There was no indication as to what these new scenes might be or when to expect them to show up in the anime. There’s also no indication as to just how many new scenes to expect.

Horikoshi’s close involvement in the final season of theMy Hero Academiaanime is somewhat similar toTite Kubo’s involvement in theThousand-Year Blood Waranime, as both mangaka only became involved in anime production when it came time for the series' final arc, with both intending to improve upon the version in the manga.

Will My Hero Academia’s Finale’s Reception Really Improve?

My Hero Academia’s Ending is Controversial for Many Reasons

The reasons for controversy surroundingMy Hero Academia’s finale are many, but a lot of them centered on the final chapter in regular serialization, and how it depicted Deku. Fans misinterpreted the chapter due to faulty early translations, leading some to be upset about events that didn’t actually happen in the chapter.

But even with that cleared up, there’s been unhappiness about the fate of some villains, Deku’s own fate, and the nature of how the final battle plays out. While it’s possible that some of this could be fixed with new added scenes, fans should temper their expectations to ensure that they aren’t expecting something radically different.

In all likelihood, the new scenes will merely add to the story, rather than make significant changes to how events play out. That may be enough to alter fan opinions on, say, the final battle, but Deku’s fate andthe fates of the villains probably won’t change. To that end,My Hero Academia’s finale may well be just as controversial as an anime.
