These days, virtually everyone is at least aware of - or has -Netflix. The original streaming platform giant, which set a shift in the way people consume content into motion, appears to be looking to diversify those offerings. While Netflix is a paid service, the company is currently offering a video game for Oculus VR headsets–for free.

The streaming platform giant initially announced its plans toadd video games to the platformback in July of this year. Netflix is reportedly planning on rolling out the service some time in the next year, and will integrate directly into the platform as if it were another genre.

TheNetflixvirtual reality game in question is titledEden Unearthed, which is based on Netflix’s original anime seriesEden. Very little information has been publicly released regarding the game outside ofEden Unearthed’s listing on App Lab, an offshoot from the Oculus Store. The free game and its corresponding anime are set a millenium after humanity disappeared from Earth, set in a monolithic city populated solely by intelligent robots called Eden 3. Players take control of a futuristic motorcycle and ride through a vast landscape, collecting fuel and apples while trying to maintain maximum speed.

Netflix is listed as both the publisher and developer of the game, along with a release date of April 21. App Lab apps are not indexed in the same way as Oculus Store titles, meaning they can essentially be published without anyone else’s knowledge if no one is given the link. While it previously announced it would beadding mobile games to Netflix’s service, this is the first known case of a Netflix-created VR video game.
