Marianne Is One Of Netflix’s Best And Darkest Horror Shows
Marianne Perfectly Combines Psychological Torture With Blood And Gore
Netflix has no shortage of great horror shows, with hit series likeMike Flanagan’sThe Haunting of HillHouseestablishing the streamer as a lot of people’s go-to service for these kinds of stories. Of course, with the number of horror shows available to watch,it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find one that is actually terrifying.
Marianne, fortunately, is in a league of its own. Like any horror show worth its salt,Mariannedoesn’t simply rely on blood, gore, or jump scares to make it memorable, though it does have a fair share of those. Instead, the series heavily utilizes psychological elements, such as Emma realizing that the witch who visits her nightmares is wreaking havoc in real life.
Marianneis as much a horror series as it is a mystery. Throughout its eight episodes, itpresents the question of how to get rid of the witch, while also delving into the catastrophe and tragedy that the book character, who has come to life, leaves in its wake. Victoire Du Bois, who plays Emma Larsimon in the series, perfectly captured her character’s desperation and fear.
Marianne Is So Disturbing, You Can Only Watch It Once
Marianne Has A Dark Tone And A Memorable Villain
Some horror shows are so good, you can only watch them once. Because of the disturbing scenes and premise inMarianne,it’s not a show that one can easily revisit. From its very first episode, the French horror seriesdoes an incredible job of laying its groundwork and then slowly building tension.

Marianne, who is obsessed with having more books written about her, initially takes over Madame Daugeron’s body in order to draw Emma to Elden so she can keep writing about her. The transformation the old lady goes through after the witch’s soul cements itself in her body is truly scary. The way she creepily smiles and pulls out her teeth, to how she hacks her hand off while in a trance, evokes fear in any viewer.
Mireille Herbstmeyer’s performance as Madame Daugeron inMarianneis easily the best thing about thisdisturbing horror series. Her creepy facial expressions are what will undoubtedly remain etched in the minds of audiences. The Netflix show constantly creates a sense of fear, including through creepy sounds that will have anyone looking around, and enclosed spaces to make it scary.
