One of the most requested quality-of-life features forClair Obscur: Expedition 33has finally been added to the game.Expedition 33took the gaming world by storm back in April and emerged as the perceived2025 Game of the Year frontrunnerfor a lot of fans, and it seems like developer Sandfall Interactive is far from finished with the acclaimed title.
According to the officialExpedition 33website, Patch 1.4.0 is out now and hasadded a Battle Retry feature, allowing players to immediately retry a lost battle without being teleported back to the last checkpoint. The addition is a simple pop-up menu, and it is optional if players do not wish to use it.

Clair Obscur Update Adds Battle Retry Feature
A Much-Needed Time Saver
The Battle Retry feature was so heavily requested because players were finding that, after sitting through often long combos and with their reserve team party members defeated, they would then have to run back to the enemy or boss and try again. The checkpoints were never too far away from specific battles, butthe additional step required for giving an enemy or boss another go was quite tedious.
Theoption to do the run back anyway and ignore the retry is present as well, if players need or want to exit the fight to respec formore powerful Pictos, different skills, or change equipment. This addition also allows players to stay in the right mindset when trying to memorize enemy attacks for patterns, dodge opportunities, or parrying windows.

Highlights From Clair Obscur Patch 1.4.0
New Settings For PC Players
While the star of the patch is the Battle Retry feature,PC players in particular are getting some love in this new update too. Frame Generation and Low Latency options have been added for both DLSS and XeSS compatible GPUs, which will allow for smoother gameplay and lower input latency.
There are also some general balance updates and improvements. Lune’s stains will now be easier to read for colorblind players, and herThermal Transfer skillhas been nerfed. A couple of overpowered Pictos were nerfed, too. Autoplay dialogue has also been added. Other than that, it’s mostly general bug fixes and improvements, but even so,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33is an outstanding game that somehow keeps getting better.
