An earnings call from THQ Nordic has revealed news that will make fans of theSaints Rowseries very happy: Volition is reportedly “deep” in development of a brand-newSaints Rowtitle, though more information about the upcoming game wasn’t discussed during the corporate conference call.

Former series director Scott Phillips had speculated that theSaints Rowwas due for a comeback, and that has now been confirmed with a successor toSaints Row 4now officially in development. It’s been some six years since the lastSaints Rowreleased, withSaints Row 4putting players in the boots of the gang’s leader shortly after he was elected President. The game entertained with incredulous weapons like the Dubstep Gun, building on the theme that eachSaints Rowgame grew a little bit more “out there” than the last. The series got its start as a direct competitor toGrand Theft Auto, but found success in going down a stranger, more sci-fi oriented path.

Of course, that isn’t to say thatSaints Rowfans have spent the last few years without any new attachments to the open-world IP: aSaints Rowmovieis currently in the planning stages, and it’s attached toStraight Outta Comptondirector F. Gary Gray. The film is currently being written by Greg Russo, who is also working on another game-to-movie adaption in regards to aMortal Kombatreboot.

THQ Nordic didn’t go into any more details regarding the investment call, but instead moved on to other topics of discussion like an all-newTimeSplittersgame. Fans can likely expect more details about the newSaints Rowtitle to come out in the coming months.
