Anew teaser forthe secondSword Art Online Progressivefilm,Sword Art Online Progressive – Scherzo of a Dark Dusk, was released on Sunday. The video was revealed at a stage presentation for theSword Art Onlinefranchise during the AnimeJapan 2022 event.

The sequel to last year’sAria of a Starless Nightwill open in Japan sometime this Fall. The film is expected to get an international release sometime later on, though nothing has been announced yet.

A video celebrating theSword Art Onlinefranchise’s 10th anniversary was also released during the event. A 10th-anniversary event will take place on November 6 in Tokyo.Another video releasedduring the stage presentation revealed that the Japanese home video release ofSword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Nightwill release on July 8.

Reki Kawahara’sSword Art Online: Progressivelight novels are a retelling of the originalSword Art Onlinenovels, with a greater focus on the floor-to-floor journey from Floor 1 to 74. The novels are published under ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint, with illustrations by abec.

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Nightpremiered in Japan in October 2021,topping the box office in its first weekend. The film opened in over 40 countries around the world following its Japanese premiere, with Funimation screening the film in both standard and IMAXtheaters in the United States and Canadaon December 3, and Australia and New Zealand on December 9.

A-1 Pictures returns to produce the film series, with Ayako Kohno (High School Fleet, Ace Attorney) directing, Kento Toya (Seven Deadly Sins, Nanbaka) returning as character designer, Yuki Kajiura (Demon Slayer, Fate/Zero) composing, and Yasuyuki Kai (Naruto, My Hero Academia) serving as action director.

Yen Press publishes the variousSword Art Onlinelight novels and manga in English. The anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation and is licensed by Aniplex USA.
