The upcomingUrusei Yatsuraanime reboot will bestreamed exclusively on HIDIVE. The announcement was made during the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 event on Saturday.
The series is set to premiere on October 13 and will run for two cours. The anime will air on Fuji TV’s famous Noitamina programming block alongside various other stations in Japan.

David Production willspearhead the series. The studio is best known for its work on theJoJo’s Bizzare Adventurefranchise andFire Force. Hideya Takahashi (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Pokemon: Origins) and Yasuhiro Kimura (Plastic Memories, New Game!!) will serve as directors for the series, with Yuuko Kakihara (Chihayafuru, Kids on the Slope) handling the series’ composition. Naoyuki Asano (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) will serve as the character denser for the anime.

Rumiko Takahashi’sUrusei Yatsuramanga ran in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine from 1978-1987, amassing 34 collected volumes. Theseries is one ofTakahashi’s best-known and most influential.
The original anime series aired from 1981-1986 and was produced by Kitty Films. Studio Pierrot handled the animation until the 106th episode, and was succeeded by Studio Deen until the series’ conclusion.
Acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii (Patlabor 2: The Movie, Ghost in the Shell) directed the series while it was animated at Pierrot, and was eventually succeeded by Kazuo Yamazaki (Mobile Suit Gundam, Maison Ikkou) following the switch to Deen. Afilm series ran between1983-1991, with a number of OVAs released throughout the mid-80s to early-90s.
VIZ Media publishes the series in English as 2-in-1 omnibus editions. Discotek Media has recently been reissuing the film series, and will bring the entire anime series to Blu-ray sometime in 2023.
