PopularFortnitestreamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins along with DJ Marshmello have won Epic’sFortnitecharity tournament held at E3 2018. Ninja and Marshmello will now be able to donate $1 million to a charity of his choice.

The tournament featured a total prize pool of $3 million, with the remaining $2 million to be donated to charities determined by the runners-up in the competition. Teams consisted of pre-selected celebrity and streamer duos that participated in three rounds: a warm-up singles match, a warm-up duos match, and finally, the actual tournament itself, a final duos match. It should come as no surprise that streamers fared a bit better than celebrities in the tournament, with a few exceptions.

This is the first major competition Epic has held forFortnite, though the studio currently has a cool$100 million set asidefor future prize pools. The stream raked in hundreds of thousands of concurrent viewers on Twitch, a sign of how massive eSports and theFortnitecommunity have become. What kind of tournaments Epic will put on forFortnitein the future is still a bit of a mystery, but there will certainly be more traditional competitions throughout the game’s lifespan.

Fortnitehas been in the news quite a bit lately, most recently for the announcement of aNintendo Switch version, which is available now. With the addition of the Switch version,Fortniteis available on just about every major platform currently on the market, including mobile phones and tablets. Without a doubt, the game will continue to appear in headlines for quite some time, as its popularity shows no sign of dying down anytime soon. Only time will tell if those headlines will be negative or positive.
