Nintendo goes HD

Outside of an emulator, it wasn’t possible to play Nintendo games in glorious 1080p — that’s all about to change in a short month, as Nintendo has just confirmed thatNew Super Mario Bros. Uwill indeed support it.

According to the official site, the description says it all, “Experience Mario like never before…in full 1080p HD, only on the Wii U console!” Seems pretty straightforward, folks!

This comes as a surprise, as Nintendo was rumored to not support 1080 out of the box, instead opting to start incorporating it at a later date. This rumor was even further backed up by the fact that demonstrations of the game were running at 720p.

As a Nintendo fan who has longed for them to enter the HD era, I couldn’t be more excited. It would be great if both Nintendo and third parties keep supporting this in the future. I just hope it’snative1080p and not upscaled, as many other console games tend to do.
