July has been amajor month for the Switch 2, with the release ofDonkey Kong Bananza, the Pokémon Presents showcase, and a possible Nintendo Direct. Not even two months after its release, the Switch 2 is the talk of the industry.
According to a Bluesky post from executive director and video game industry analyst at CircanaMat Piscatella, theSwitch 2 has sold 1.6 million units in Americaduring its launch month, beating the previous record held by the PS4, which sold 1.1 million units over the same length of time back in 2013. Switch 2 Sales At Launch Breaks PS4’s Record In The U.S.
The Console Is Doing Well For Nintendo
Impressively, the Switch 2, priced at $449.99 (or $499.99 for theMario Kart Worldbundle andupcomingPokémon Legends: Z-Abundle),has sold even faster than the PS4 did in 2013, which was priced at $399, significantly cheaper than the Xbox One at $499 at launch and releasing around the same timeframe.
The Switch 2 is the only “newish” console out right now, as the PS5 Pro was a mid-generation upgrade, which could be contributing to a heavier focus on Nintendo.

Despite all the Switch 2 controversies, likeGame-Key Cards, its initial higher-than-expected price tag, and its major launch game,Mario Kart World, costing $80, it seems those points of contentiondidn’t negatively affect console sales.
With the holiday season still months away, plus at least two more major game releases withPokémon Legends: Z-AandMetroid Prime 4later this year, sales will likely stay steady throughout 2025.
How Switch 2 Launch Sales Compared To Previous Consoles
