This week’sNintendo Directwas a solid showing of some great titles coming later this year, but many of its most high profile series were missing. However, if rumors prove true,Nintendomay have something very secretive cooking.
According to Game Informer’s Imran Khan (who was a guest on the Kinda Funny Games Daily show on February 13th), news of a specific game continues to pop up to the point that it sounds like it is in development. Khan did not reveal the game, saying he wants to confirm with a few more sources before he makes the news public. However, he was clear that this game rumored to be in development was thought dead:

“There’s a game that’s thought to be dead that Nintendo’s reviving, and it’s not one that people would expect. It was very much a title that was dead and buried, very officially canceled. […] I’ve heard enough about this game that I’m almost sure it exists again.”
It is unclear from how far back in Nintendo’s history this game would be coming from, but looking at the more recent past, Nintendo was said to have plans to bring backF-Zeroon the Wii Uwith the help ofNeed for Speeddeveloper Criterion Games, but that game never came to fruition. Other franchises that at some point were rumored to be on Nintendo’s list to bring back but never did during the Wii generation includedKid IcarusandWave Race.
There was another alleged leak a couple weeks ago saying that Nintendo wasworking to release 11 games in 2019for the Switch, so it’s certainly possible that this mystery game could be among them. Even with that rumor, there were few concrete details, but after this latest Nintendo Direct, some fans may be able to start narrowing down the possibilities of what canceled game from Nintendo’s past could be revived. Unless news breaks from Khan, it is anyone’s guess as to whenNintendowill officially announce this title in question, if at all.
