On February 11, Coby “Dizzy” Meadows, 18, signed to the NRG esports team but was relatively unknown before, but right after, Dizzy broke the Solo kills record and won thefirst official tournamentofApex Legendsalongside high profile Twitch streamer Ninja and fellow NRG player KingRichard. Although Dizzy seems like the prodigal son, it’s worth mentioning his time as a competitive player goes back to 2016.
Dizzy first began as a rifler forCS:GO, playing from 2016 to 2017 on various teams such as Mythic, Enigma6 Group, Selfessless Gaming, and the Foundation. Afterward, he began streaming games likeFortniteand eventually found his place inApex Legends, with Wraith serving as his main of the8 available characters. At the time of this writing, Dizzy holds the Solo vs. Trio kill record of 33. This means that Dizzy alone took out over half of the game’s squads.
Alongside Ninja and KingRichard, Dizzy has won the first twoApex Legendstournaments, with Ninja referring to Dizzy as the “young prodigy.” When the next Twitch tournament takes place on February 19, it seems likely that many will be gunning for Dizzy’s title, as the young prodigy is quickly making a name for himself. It’s also worth mentioning that Ninja’s name will almost always be synonymous withFortnite, so Dizzy could eventually become the Ninja ofApex Legends.
This doesn’t seem to be a stretch of the imagination either, as the most recent pinned post on Dizzy’s Twitter is his player card, revealing that he has 5,314 kills, 3,764 headshots, and has dealt over 1 MILLION damage inApex Legends. Considering all that he has accomplished in a short time span, it’s clear why Dizzy isApex Legends’first big pro player.
All things considered, the incredible growth ofApex Legendshasit set to outpaceFortniteif the momentum doesn’t slow down. And with the way its growing and the way Dizzy is dominating, it could very well be that Dizzy finds himself at the fore of one of gaming’s next biggest hits, but only time will tell.
Apex Legendsis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
