Pokemon GOwas at the height of its popularity back in the summer of 2016, with the app smashing records and becoming a bonafide cultural phenomenon in the process. Many YouTubers and Internet personalities attempted to cash in on the success ofPokemon GOby creating various videos about the game, including YouTube channel SuperMega, which played it near the ultra-secret government base Area 51.

While SuperMega originally uploaded thePokemon GOArea 51 video back in 2016, the video has gotten new life thanks to the Internet’s obsession with Area 51. For the uninitiated, a Facebook group has been created with the premise that the members will storm Area 51 on September 20. The group has millions of people pledging that they will in fact converge on the Nevada desert in September to participate in theArea 51 raid, spawning countless memes around the idea.

Thanks to the popularity of the Area 51 raid, this oldPokemon GOvideo is seeing fresh comments and views, not to mention other channels stealing it for their own use. The content of the video itself is actually fairly uneventful, but that hasn’t stopped people from going to watch SuperMega’s Area 51 video, which is over three years old at this point.

In the video, the YouTubers drive out to Area 51, and attempt to playPokemon GOat the gates. They struggle to get service and don’t find much, but using an incense, they do manage to catch a Pikachu while out in the desert. At one point, the pair are observed from afar by government officials in a white truck, which is pretty much par for the course for anyone who dares to go near the Area 51 base.

Of course, the people behind SuperMega are far from the only ones to playPokemon GOnear Area 51. In fact, the publication Frag Hero did something similar, and discovered thatArea 51 has emptyPokemon GOgyms. Perhaps if the raid Area 51 Facebook group actually goes through with its promise, the army of Kyles, Karens, and Naruto runners will add their Pokemon to the unclaimed gyms.
