Summary

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3has had an interesting month to say the least. Early access for theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3campaign allowed players to see a series-worst singleplayer mode days before launch, souring some on the game before it even debuted. However, positive opinions about the bold new Zombies mode and a multiplayer offering that is a return-to-form meant the community response to the game became less negative, even ifCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s reviews are far from ideal. Unfortunately, one of those two winning experiences has recently become painful to play, and that isModern Warfare 3Zombies.

To be clear, there is plenty to praise aboutCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies. While the mode could certainly use more Easter eggs, its hidden perks and mechanics like the Vault do mean that it has a few more secrets to offer than Outbreak did. Enemy density is great, as players can seek out large hordes at exfils and will constantly have things to shoot at while roaming the map. Best of all, loot is satisfying, as players can constantly find powerful gear for their Operators or useful scorestreaks to make Tier 3 zones manageable. Unfortunately, players losing that loot at no fault of their own is far too common at the moment.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Players Are Losing Loot Unfairly

How Crashes Are Ruining Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies

UnlikeotherCall of DutyZombies experienceswhere game crashes or server disconnects only result in the loss of progress made during a single match, games unexpectedly ending inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies is more devastating. This is because loot is not protected in the case of a game or server crash. As such, players may gear up with several perks, weapon upgrades, an expensive streak, and a maxed out armor vest only to lose it all before they even spawn in. It could take players multiple games to build up such an arsenal, meaning they have lost several matches of progress without even having a chance to load into Urzikstan.

This has been made worse by a recentpatch forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3that has left MWZ incredibly unstable. While players experienced occasional crashes in the first few days of the game, now many are suffering through server disconnects in back-to-back games. This forces them to play as other characters if they do not want to risk losing the gear on their usual Operator, as picking them means that they are at high risk of everything they worked for being taken away. For players who need this stashed gear to get through missions or grind out schematic unlocks in Tier 3, their progress has stalled, and the game is essentially not worth playing at the moment until the bugs and crashes have been sorted.

While crashes usually happen at the start of a match, they can also happen near the end, as a nasty bug is seeing players dropped fromMWZ’s exfil helicopteras it leaves the map. This will see them going invulnerable and running for several minutes before the server times out and they lose everything, as the game recognizes they are not supposed to be in the match but will not grant them the successful exfil screen.

Short Term and Long Term Solutions For MWZ’s Lost Loot Issue

WhileCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies desperately needs a patch to fix the constant crashes and the exfil helicopter bug, Treyarch also needs to come up with a long-term fix for the problem. Even when the servers are stabilized, there will likely still be occasional disconnects and game crashes, meaning that gamers will always run the risk of losing their loot unfairly. Treyarch has to add some protection for loot in the case of a disconnect, letting players keep whatever they spawned in with as long as they did not leave a match intentionally. While this could take time to implement, as it may require a rework of the systems carried over fromDMZ, a short-term fix could see players given a few free Aether Tools and Pack-a-Punch crystals to make up for all the loot they have lost since this frustrating update arrived.
