Storm,the goddess of thunder, made her first appearance inGiant-Size X-Men#1 (1975) through the work of Dave Cockrum and Len Wein. However,her creation was not as straightforward as fans might assume.As revealed inGeneration X: History of the X-Men, Storm was not a completely original concept but rather a combination of two earlier characters, Black Cat and Tempest.
These two prototypes never got off the ground and should not be confused with Felicia Hardy or Angel Salvadore, who later used those same codenames. There is little to no connection between the modern-day heroines and the two unused 1970s characters who helped inspire what would eventually become Storm.
As explained in the documentary, neither Black Cat nor Tempest quite fit the vision the creative team had for a new character. It was not until comic writer Roy Thomas suggested merging the two (taking the powers of one and the design and personality of the other) that Cockrum and Wein found the winning formula that gave rise to Storm.
