WhileWuchang: Fallen Feathershas been one of the most hyped soulslike RPGs of 2025, it has unfortunately faced a backlash from fans on its release today due to some major issues with performance on both PC and PS5. While this isn’t necessarily indicative of the game’s overall quality, players are obviously frustrated with the game’s state at launch.

Looking at theWuchangSteamreviews this morning, it receivedover 13,000 negative player reviews and counting, with players citing extremely poor performance due to Unreal Engine 5 optimization, as well as pricing issues in the Chinese market. Further, some players are upset that bonus content that was supposed to be for Deluxe Edition buyers was also rewarded to those who purchased the normal edition.

Notably, these negative reviews rarely mention anything to do with the actual gameplay inWuchang: Fallen Feathers. And while it’s likely a patch will be released in the coming days to address these concerns, players are not happy withWuchangat the moment.

Why Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Fans Aren’t Happy

Wuchang Launched With Poor UE5 Optimization

Wuchang: Fallen Featherslaunched today on all platforms and even as a free Day-One Release onXbox Game Pass, but players across the board have been experiencing major performance issues. Notably, fans cite larger problems with Unreal Engine 5 optimization being terrible, with users likeOnyostating that UE5 games being"a hit or miss when it comes to performance, and in this case it’s a miss unfortunately."

Wuchangisn’t the only game to experienceissues with Unreal Engine 5optimization, and it’san overall worrying trend that developers should take note of.It’s worth noting, however, that performance problems seem to be much more common on older systems, with users such asWildchantsstating:

This game runs great on a 5070ti and using a egpu setup with an ally X. I get around 110 fps using dlss and frame gen 2x running in 4k ultra.

It appears that performance on lower-grade systems and the PS5 is particularly bad, while newer and higher-end systems seem to be runningWuchangjust fine. Regardless, this disparity is still going to be problematic for the game’s launch anda performance patch will be desperately neededto bring many players facing performance problems back.

Wuchang’s Overall Quality Is Not Reflected In These Poor User Reviews

Further, critics have praised the game for its unique gameplay mechanics and progression system, among other standout gameplay features.

While some players have also noted issues with pricing in Chinese markets, with some regions getting access to lower prices than others, non-performance-related complaints are few and far between.
