SomeOverwatch 2players are hoping that more online phrases like “GG EZ” will be replaced through chat filters in an endless fight against community toxicity. Certain phrases were replaced inOverwatchchat over the years as it was used to put down other players, and someOverwatch 2fans are waiting for more chat filters to offer broader protection.

Reddit user Ahhshoelay recently made a post requesting Activision Blizzard treat chat messages like “tank/dps/support diff” similar to GG EZ which has long been replaced by phrases like “what a great game!” Toxicity has been a frequent problem in online gaming, and that became apparent quickly after the launch of the originalOverwatch, and it’s something that hascarried over toOverwatch 2. Although some other games likeWorld of WarcraftandNew Worldoffer profanity filters that obscure problematic words,Overwatchhas taken a different approach by turning the negative words into positive ones rather than random symbols.

As some phrases have been lost to existing chat filters, Ahhshoelay suggests that tank diff, support diff, etc. should follow as it’s a combination of words that are being used to put down the different roles of a match. ThisOverwatch 2fan thinks that chat is a necessary tool for the hero shooter, but that the toxicity can often distract from other communications. Although Activision Blizzard continues to optimizeOverwatch 2chatby removing things like GG EZ, some players believe it’s likely that the toxic community members will just adopt a new put-down for their teammates.

While someOverwatch 2playershave picked up “diff” to signal which members of the team let them down, Ahhshoelay suggests that it’s comparable to children’s playground verbiage. TheOverwatch 2player doesn’t provide an example of a proper alternative to the toxic quote and instead insists that Activision Blizzard should rectify the new slang as it did GG EZ on the original title.

Though someOverwatch 2fans have expressed their enthusiasm for Ahhshoelay’s suggestion to add more chat filters to the game, others have assured them that the toxic players will gravitate toward the next offensive slang rather than stopping. Because Ahhshoelay’s post reads like a call to developers, many Reddit users took the opportunity to remind otherOverwatch 2fans that the devs don’t normally read such posts outside the officialActivision Blizzard forums.

Overwatch 2is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
