This week, gamers will get their hands onRage 2, the sequel to id Software’s open world first person shooterdeveloped by Avalanche Studiosthis time around. But while id Software is not responsible for the gameplay in Rage 2, there is at least one homage to the studio’s lineage.
Rage 2players that purchased the Deluxe Edition orCollector’s Edition of the gameare eligible to unlock the BFG 9000, the iconic weapon featured in theDOOMseries. But to unlock the BFG inRagetakes a few extra steps that some players may not be aware of.
The first thing thatRage 2players must do is link their copy ofRage 2with their Bethesda account, assuming you already have one. If not, then there is the added step of creating a Bethesda account, which can be used to track numerous games within the Bethesda family. This can be done from the main menu and is very simple, but ensure to do it before starting the game.
Once the account is linked,Rage 2should tell players what types of items they have unlocked, like pre-order bonuses. A pop-up should also tell them how to get the BFG 9000, but in case players missed it, here is a general overview.
After some general introduction toRage 2, players will eventually enter Vineland and the open world of the game. While adventuring, they should see a meteor fall from the sky. Head to the meteor and the BFG 9000 will be inside.
How to Unlock the BFG in Rage 2
Given how strong the BFG 9000 is inDOOM, some might expect that the weapon would be nerfed inRage 2. Luckily, it appears that Avalanche Studios, who has a proclivity for insane weapons thanks to itsJust Causeseries, would rather keep the spirit of the weapon intact. Firing the BFG 9000 works exactly like in DOOM – a ball of energy emits from the weapon and disintegrates anything in its path.
Unfortunately, theBFG 9000 is only a premium item inRage 2at the moment. Perhaps Avalanche will make it available as DLC in the future, but we will have to wait and see.
Rage 2releases August 05, 2025 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
