Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Resident Alien season 4, episode 3!Resident Alienseason 4, episode 3 featured a big character death, which was perfectly foreshadowed by one of the best characters before it happened. ThroughoutResident Alienseason 4, Harry and his friends have been dealing with a multitude of problems. While he’s been trying to get his alien powers back from the Greys,he’s also had to contend with the Mantid taking on his likeness in Patience. The dangerous, praying mantis-like alien tricked him into switching places at theend ofResident Alienseason 3, and has been eating people’s heads in town ever since.
During season 4, episode 3, the Mantid ends up involved in multiple storylines forcharacters inResident Alien. This includes Mike seeing it feasting on a deer in the woods while he and Liv are investigating the severed head cases. He also becomes the target of the kids in the town’s alien club. Max winds up teaming with Bridget to try and take the Mantid down. When it seems like he’s made a deadly mistake, the Mantid ends up getting killed in a hilarious fashion, something that was previously predicted by one of the show’s best characters.

Sahar Revealed How The Mantid Was Going To Die At The Start Of The Episode
A Throwaway Line Confirmed Who Was Going To Kill Him
During Max’s attempt to kill the Mantid, it quickly discovered that Bridget was pretending to be the boy, soon picking up the real Max and almost eating his head. Luckily,Heather appeared just in time to save him. The Blue Avian, who was previously introduced in season 3 and became Harry’s girlfriend, made quick work of the antagonist. However, instead of just killing him, she started eating him in a comedic scene that drew some uncomfortable reactions from the other characters present.
However, Heather’s arrival to save Max had already been secretly confirmed by Sahar earlier in the episode. While gathering her and Max’s friends to help hunt the Mantid, she listed off a number of weaknesses real praying mantises have that could work against the alien. This included an offhand comment aboutbirds being one of their natural predators. Heather is a bird-like alien, making the quick comment subtle foreshadowing of her reappearance. It also confirms that, much like birds eating praying mantises,Blue Avains eat Mantids.

What The Mantid’s Death Means For Resident Alien Season 4
His Quick Death Means Multiple Storylines Have Now Ended
The Mantid’s death means Harry no longer has to worry about an impostor in Patience, indicating he can safely go back to his job at the town clinic. This also means anything the bug-like alien has been doing since his arrival in town won’t be happening anymore. It allows Harry to give people a more accurate impression of himself again, instead of his alternate’s slicked-back hair and affinity for cigarettes. This also means the biggest danger he has to face on Earth is now gone, all thanks to Heather’s interference.
[I]t seems like [Mike and Liv’s] serial killer search is going to dwindle as the episodes progress
However, it also means thatMike and Liv’s investigationinto the serial killings in town will be coming to a close soon. WhileMike believes in aliens and saw the Mantid, it’s only a matter of time before they realize he’s disappeared. Another possibility is that they find its body, leading to a deeper investigation into general alien occurrences around Patience. For now, though, it seems like their serial killer search is going to dwindle as the episodes progress, even if there’s no confirmation yet as to where their story will go from here.
Sahar’s offhand comment about praying mantis predators wasa perfect hint for the Mantid’s comedic death at Heather’s beak. Not only did it offer some fun payoff when she arrived, but it also created a major twist in the villain’s fate thatResident Alienwill need to address going forward. With the show’s current big antagonist now dead, it remains to be seen how Heather’s arrival - with her and Harry’s children, no less - will impact the story from here.
