Details on theResident Evil 2remake have been scarce since the game was first announced a couple of years ago. While Capcom still has yet to share much information on the game, we do know one detail that may leave fans of the original release disappointed. Alyson Court, who voiced Claire Redfield inResident Evil 2andCode: Veronica, will not be reprising the role in the remake.
Court posted a video online to address the matter. According to Court, Capcom initially reached out to her to have her come back for theResident Evil 2remake. However, the company Capcom hired to localize the remake, which wasn’t named in Court’s video, apparently decided to go with a non-union voice actor to play Claire Redfield in the upcoming game.
Since we don’t know the company handling the localization process forResident Evil 2remake, we can’t say what its motivation could be for wanting to go with a non-union worker. And since Court didn’t elaborate on the timeline of these events, it’s hard to say what outside factors may have influenced this decision, such as thevideo game voice actors strike, for example.
While some fans may be disappointed that Alyson Court will not be returning to play Claire Redfield in theResident Evil 2remake, at least her video offers an idea of where the game is at in development. Apparently enough progress has been made that Capcom is already recording lines for the game, which is a good sign that development is on track.
And since new lines are being recorded, it appears as though fans can expect theResident Evil 2remake to have new dialogue, which could translate into completely new story sequences. If that’s the case, it appears as though Capcom wasn’t exaggerating when it said that theResident Evil 2would be afull remake and not a simple remaster.
Unfortunately, theResident Evil 2remake was absent from E3, and it’s hard to say when we will see the first footage of the game. In the meantime, it will be interesting to learn more about it, and who will be replacing Alyson Court as Claire Redfield.
