A couple of months ago, Atlus announced an enhanced version ofPersona 5calledPersona 5 R, with more information promised to come later this month. We haven’t learned 5 Rsince its initial announcement, but now a rumor suggests that the game is not only slated for the PS4, but the Nintendo Switch as well.
Twitter user Mr. Ohya, known for leakingPersonanews, claims thatPersona 5 Rwill release on Switch and PS4 this fall, but it will be namedPersona 5 S. Unfortunately for fans hoping to learn what kind of enhancementsPersona 5 Swill bring to the table, Mr. Ohya didn’t reveal any additional information about what the game will have in store.
WhilePersona 5fans should take this information with a grain of salt, it should be noted that this isn’t the first time we’ve caught wind of aPersona 5port for the Switch. A domain name change by Atlus a couple of months back, before the announcement ofPersona 5 R, led to speculation that a Switch port could indeed be in the works, plus there’s the fact thatJoker is coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Joker isPersona 5’s main protagonist, and will be coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatesoon. Nintendo typically sticks to characters who have appeared in games on Nintendo consoles (with some rare exceptions), and so it makes sense that Joker’s addition toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatewould be used to promote aPersona 5Switch port.
Beyond that, one has to consider that the Nintendo Switch should be more than capable of runningPersona 5. After all, a version ofPersona 5exists for the PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo Switch is able to run ports of various PS4 and Xbox One games, so it should have no problem at all withPersona 5, which isn’t even all that graphically intensive of a game.
While aPersona 5port for the Nintendo Switch seems like an inevitability at this point, fans should still keep their expectations in check until Atlus issues an official announcement. Luckily, with more news onPersona 5 R(orS, if that is really what it’s going to be called in the West as Mr. Ohya suggests) coming this month, fans shouldn’t have to wait much longer for more information.
