After first announcing theResident Evil 2remake a few years ago, Capcom is finally expected to properly reveal the game at E3 this year. We’re not quite sure what to expect from theResident Evil 2remake at E3, if it is indeed at the show as expected, but one thing that may be announced is its release date.
Resident Evil-themed YouTube channel Residence of Evil has discovered evidence thatResident Evil 2remake will launch in late October of this year, and if so, it seems likely Capcom will announce an exact release date at E3. Residence of Evil’s evidence is a newLeon S. KennedyRaccoon City Police Department jacket that goes on sale “late October” that looks quite different from Leon’s gear in the originalResident Evil 2game.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Leon were to get a new look in theResident Evil 2remake, and it makes sense for Capcom to update his appearance for modern consoles. However, there are some things about the new jacket that, as pointed out in the video below, are somewhat inconsistent with the game’s setting. For example, the jacket has a place for body camera equipment, which weren’t widely used in the 1990s, which is when the events ofResident Evil 2took place. The jacket also has a detective badge for Leon, when he is supposed to be a rookie cop.

It’s possible that this jacket is just a Halloween costume or something (a pricey one at that, as it’s selling for the equivalent of $235), but it’s also possible that it can give fans a better idea of what to expect from theResident Evil 2remake. Perhaps the jacket’s updated look is an indication that the remake is actually set in more modern times, and may feature a more experienced Leon, as opposed to the rookie cop seen in the original game.
Capcom updatingResident Evil 2’s story to be set in modern times could prove to be a controversial move, but it wouldn’t be the first time the company has tweaked franchise lore. And before purists get too upset, it’s worth keeping in mind that the jacket could mean nothing - fans will just have totune in to E3 2018to find out.
