The anime adaptation of Gege Akutami’sJujutsu Kaisenmanga will be getting a second season. The announcement was made by the cast of theJujutsu Kaisen 0film andJujutsu Kaisenanime following a Saturday screening ofJujutsu Kaisen 0.

Theprequel film’s websitepreviously teased that an “important announcement” would be made during the Saturday screening. The second season is expected to debut sometime in 2023.

Gege Akutami’sJujutsu Kaisenis serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and began its run in 2018. The manga’s success inspired an anime adaptation two years following its debut, and the series has won a variety of awards during its short run. The mangahad over 60 million copies printed and sold as of November.

MAPPA produced an anime adaptation that aired during the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 seasons. The series ran for 24 episodes and was directed by Sunghoo Park, who also worked onThe God of High School. Hiroshi Seko served as the series’ screenwriter and has worked on notable series such asMob Psycho 100,Attack on Titan, and the upcomingChainsaw Mananime adaptation.

Akutami’sJujutsu Kaisen 0(renamed fromTokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School) manga ran in Shueisha’s Jump GIGA magazine from April-July 2017. The film adaptation was released on December 24, and has been steadily breaking records since its premiere. The prequelfilm recently surpassedEvangelion: 3.0+1.0as Japan’s #1 film of 2021, and stands as the 34th highest-earning film in Japanese box office history, having sold 7,603,732 tickets for ¥10,456,322,400 (roughly US$90.6 million) in the 45 following its premiere.

Viz Media publishes theJujutsu KaisenandJujutsu Kaisen 0manga in English. Crunchyroll streams the series in English, and will be screening theJujutsu Kaisen 0prequel film in U.S. and Canadian theatersstarting March 18. Tickets will go on sale starting February 25.
