Ubisoft’s pirate gameSkull and Boneshas been going through a tumultuous time in terms of its development. The game was originally announced in 2017, and any headway that was made at the time had slowed down.Skull and Boneshad reportedly restarted its developmentback in 2020 due to a number of setbacks and issues that were plaguing its progress. Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced the game would be on-track to release sometime in 2023.

Thisleaked video ofSkull and Bonesgave people some insight into what to expect, with a lot of it being focused on a new social hub world known as Sainte-Anne, a progression tracker system, as well as the basic gameplay. These are all aspects that haven’t been officially announced by the developers yet, where the game has shifted from a matchmaking multiplayer game to something more of a multiplayer open world looter-shooter with pirates. Shortly after this leaked video was taken down, Ubisoft posted a short teaser video on the game’s official Twitter account.
This short video ofSkull and Bonesgave fans a first look at how one part of the environment and would look like, as well as a spiky new ship. It also gives fans a brief idea of how sailing would look like in this new iteration as well. The video then notes fans to “stay tuned” to future updates from the account, indicating that more information regarding this Ubisoft original IP is coming soon.
Reception to this teaser have been mixed, as seen with the replies from fans under the tweet. Many were split between excitement and disappointment, with those who have seen the leaked gameplay making unfavorablecomparisons toSea of Thieves, while others were excited to see the new direction this game has taken after half a decade of development. Regardless, it seems like Ubisoft is in a more comfortable position to share information regardingSkull and Bonesbefore its targeted 2023 release.
