Xbox announced that members of the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead tiers of the Xbox Insider Program who have an Xbox Elite Wireless Series 2 Controller orthe Xbox Adaptive Controllerwill be able to map keyboard keys to their controllers using their Windows PCs. The new feature will allow players to play PC games that are not natively compatible with Xbox controllers. With some games only playable with a keyboard and mouse, the new feature could potentially open the player base for these games by making them more accessible to players who would rather play on the couch with a classic video game controller in hand.
Just days aftera leaker confirmed a fresh slate of Xbox controller styles, Xbox has given its Insider members who qualify a chance to map keyboard keys to their controllers. They can get started by opening the Xbox Accessories app on the console, choosing the “Configure” option, and then “Create a new profile or edit an existing one.” They must then choose whether it’s a “Primary” button or a “Shift” key before finally selecting the Key tab. Players can only map a button to a single key but can add modifier keys like Atl, Ctrl, Shift, and Win, that alter the function of the primary key being activated.

The general gaming public won’t be able to get their hands on this helpful new feature for some time. What that time is, exactly, is anyone’s guess, as its inclusion in theXbox Insider programhints that while the function may be in a playable state, it’s still got some development time ahead.
