It’s no secret that the PlayStation 4 hasdominated this console generation. When the system launched in 2013, Sony zeroed in on creating a (then) powerful console that was focused on the gamer and backed up by a strong catalog of console exclusives.

Games includingUncharted: The Lost Legacy,Horizon: Zero Dawn,The Last of Us: Part 2, andGod of Warare heavily featured in the trailer. The Lost LegacyandHorizon: Zero Dawnwere big hits last year, withHorizonbeing considered for multiple Game of the Year awards (Breath of the Wildscooped up most of those awards for 2017).

Luckily for Sony, first party games from top-tier developers such as Naughty Dog and Guerilla Games have been massive successes, but the PS4’s upcoming 2018 and 2019 titles also have the potential to be huge. Sony Santa Monica’sGod of Warwill see its release next month with hype growing for that game. Sony Santa Monica’s latest will see a bit of a departure from previous games in the series with its more narrative-driven, intimate tone.

A month later, in May, Quantic Dream’s cinematic game,Detroit: Become Human, will launch. And while there have not been release dates given forMarvel Spider-Man,The Last of Us: Part II, andDays Gone, those PS4-exclusives are high profile releases that Sony is no doubt counting on to be major critical and commercial successes.

Of course, it’s easy to hype upcoming games. We’ve all experienced great gaming disappointments, so in the same way, no game’s success should be considered guaranteed until it actually releases.

This trailer sure makes PS4 look like it’s going strong, but the console will soon be five years old, andif rumors are true, the next generation of PlayStation could be on the horizon. Either way, PS4 has a huge install base and those who own the console have a lot of games to look forward to in 2018 and 2019.
