With major upcoming RPG sequels likeThe Witcher 4and the recent confirmation ofBaldur’s Gate 4definitely happening, there’s one game that blows either of these out of the water when it comes to the most exciting and most-anticipated sequel of the moment.
After last week’s confirmation from Wizards of the Coast thatBaldur’s Gate 4is definitely happening, there’s a lot of discussion and buzz about what the franchise could do to possibly fillBaldur’s Gate 3’sshoes.
However,Clair Obscur’s sequel is more exciting than these other juggernauts for a variety of reasons, primarily that it has extreme freedom, very few restrictions or expectations, and an entire universe of lore and unique gameplay elements to expand upon.

Because of the game’s incredible narrative, which leaves a lot ofquestions yet to be answered, the anticipation forClair Obscur 2is much higher than other major RPGs.
Clair Obscurhas a few advantages that make its sequel more exciting aside from the narrative alone, namely the expansive lore and world-building it has at its fingertips outmatches games likeWitcher 4in that itisn’t bound by any pre-established canon. The story, world, and characters ofClair Obscur 2are not limited in the same way thatWitcher 4’s are to the source material.
Baldur’s Gate 4,on the other hand, has a massive pool of lore to pull from, but faces a different set of limitations when it comes to filling its predecessor’s shoes. UnlikeClair Obscur 2, which will undoubtedly have thesame team at Sandfallbehind it,BG4will not be made byBaldur’s Gate 3’sdevelopers at Larian.
The expectations and pressure onBG4developers will be considerable, and the fact that Larian is not going to be behindBG4has many players reluctant to get excited about it or get their hopes up. Sandfall Can Expand Clair Obscur Lore & Gameplay In Unlimited Ways
Clair Obscurhas a major advantage when it comes to a sequel, and developer Sandfall Interactive can expand on the original in so many different ways. Outside of lore and story, the turn-based gameplay mechanics, progression and upgrade systems, and incredible level design can all be expanded and/or improved upon tomake something both fresh and familiar.
Overall, RPG fans have more reasons to be excited aboutClair Obscur: Expedition 33’seventual sequel than most other major IP sequels in the works. WhileClair Obscur 2will still have huge shoes to fill, it has more advantages and has a higher likelihood of success than most other major franchises.
