What This Means For The Future Of South Park
The Show Has A 5-Year Deal
In 2019,South Parkwas licensed on HBO Max, as Paramount+ was still in development. Paramount+ had previously offered HBO Max a new deal that would see the animated show on both services, but Paramount’s merging with Skydance created problems in negotiations. This led to theSouth Parkcreators to publicly call the merger"a sh*t show."
This new deal comes after years oflegal battles overSouth Parkbetween Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery. Although the deal with HBO Max came to an end, the streamer still wanted to maintain the streaming rights. A deal being made should come as a relief for fans of the series, asthe 5-year deal has secured the future of the showafter public legal battles.

Our Take On The New Deal
The Long-Running Show Will Continue
In the current TV landscape, nothing is a sure thing. Long-running shows that seem like institutions for networks and streamers can be removed, as seen with the recentcancellation ofThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The Late Showhas over 30 years of history, beginning with the legendary David Letterman, and the series is being unceremoniously dumped in May 2026.
With that in mind, the future ofSouth Parkseemed to be unknown. However, with Paramount willing to spend $1.5 billion on the global streaming rights, it would indicate that they have a strong belief in the series and its future as well.
While Paramount has yet to officially confirm the deal, reports are showing thatSouth Parkwill at least have a streaming home for the next 5 years as new episodes are produced.
