Spider-Manhas always been Peter Parker’s superhero moniker, but in light of his new era, Marvel’s web-slinging hero is donning a new codename equipped with a new ruthless mentality that puts him on Wolverine’s level.
It’s clear the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is no more, as Marvel completely breaks Peter Parker. InAmazing Spider-Man#9, by Joe Kelly and Michael Dowling, Spider-Man admits that he’s done playing nice after his loss to Hellgate, withPeter Parker taking on brutal new tactics and a completely different disposition as “Resolution Spider-Man.”

Resolution Spider-Man: Peter Parker Takes on a Brutal New Mentality as ‘Resolution Spider-Man’
Amazing Spider-Man #9 by Joe Kelly, Michael Dowling, Marte Garcia
As Spider-Man decimatesShocker’s new team of bad guys, he comes to a deeply disturbing resolution, noting that “Pain can’t be avoided, but it can be shared. Vigorously.” This line not only makes sense of his new codename but also completely changes Spider-Man into a brutal anti-hero that would give a vicious fighter like Wolverine a run for his money.
Peter’s new outlook isn’t just talk; the summary toAmazing Spider-Man#10 features an article of Spider-Man equipped with dangerous new wrist weights to better pummel his enemies, as the article reads that Peter has put several criminals in the I.C.U. After his loss to Hellgate, it’s apparent that Peter is getting stronger by any means necessary.

Though it appears Peter has officially come to a more violent resolve, there are still unanswered questions, such as what happened to Peter during the weeks he went missing afterHellgate’s final punch. Marvel hints that a new cosmic Spider-Man is on his way, but with Peter’s out-of-character actions, there is undoubtedly more to this mysterious new Spider-Man.

Marvel Sets the Stage for Two Spider-Men, But Which Is Peter Parker?
InMarvel’s preview ofAmazing Spider-Man#11, Spider-Man is shown in outer space with a never-before-seen Technarachnid suit. With two Spider-Men operating at the same time, one in space and one acting unlike Peter Parker, it begs the question of whether the Spider-Man on Earth is the true Peter or whether Hellgate has possibly split Spider-Man into two heroes?
Marvel has quite literally broken Peter Parker, as Spider-Man is implied to have become a fragment of his former self. The truth behind whether or not Peter Parker has split into two separate entities remains to be seen, but Spider-Man’s cruel new way of dealing with his villain, as Resolution Spider-Man makes a hero like Wolverine look soft.
