Not too long ago,Square Enixannounced the decision to host a specialvideo press conference at E3 2018in June, despite the Japanese publisher and developer having taken a couple of prior years off from the big event. Now, just several weeks ahead of this year’s show, the company has officially filed a fresh trademark through the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for a project calledOutriders.

As of now,Square Enixhas yet to publicly announce anything related to the trademark, but with the filing having been labeled under “game software” and “entertainment services,” there’s a high chance thatOutridersis the official name of a game that the publisher and developer will be detailing at some point in the near future. Unfortunately, though, there’s currently no telling exactly when or where the company will decide to unveil its plans for the project.

Just last week, People Can Fly reconfirmed a longstanding partnership with Square Enix, with the development company stating that it would be opening up a couple of different PCF branches to work on anew “AAA shooter"in conjunction with the publishing firm. With this being the case, it’s quite possible that the shooter in question could be related to theOutriderstrademark filing from Square Enix, but it’s still too early to know at this juncture.

All things considered, with Square Enix having its hands in the production of a variety of different genres, it will be intriguing to see which game type it decides to tackle next withOutridersnow in its holdings. When talking aboutvideo games' futureabout a year ago, the company released a report indicating where its interests lie that discussed potential expansions into the mobile market and a possible shift toward focusing on more games as a service. Of course, we will simply have to wait and see what lies ahead forOutriders.
