Following disappointment amongst a number of fans over the lack of a narrative-driven campaign in the original, gamers were overjoyed to learn thatStar Wars: Battlefront 2will feature a story mode. Understandably, there’s now a lot of pressure on Electronic Arts and DICE to deliver on a campaign worthy of theStar Warsname, and it looks like the developer has taken the necessary steps to ensure that the new adventure is being penned by capable writers.

The two writers in question are none other than Walt Williams, the writer responsible for the critically-acclaimedSpec Ops: The Line, and former IGN editor Mitch Dyer. The duo’s involvement was fleshed out during an interview with Glixel, whereStar Wars: Battlefront 2director Mark Thompson was quick to justify choosing both Williams and Dyer for the job.

“All these fantastic stories fleshing out the universe, and they all seemed to have their own identity and tone and voice. Both of our writers – Walt Williams and Mitch Dyer – are voracious fans ofStar Warsand had already read most of these things I had to play a lot of catch up to [approach] their encyclopedic knowledge of everything that existed.”

The narrative present inStar Wars: Battlefront 2is said to be set from the perspective of an Imperial soldier named Iden Versio in the 30 years following the explosion of the Death Star. It’s an interesting premise, and one that Disney felt warranted creating a brand newStar Warsnovel, titledStar Wars Battlefront 2: Inferno Squad, to help fans get a little more background information on Versio.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2arrives for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Jul 20, 2025.
