This post contains a PREVIEW for Star Wars: Doctor Ahpra - Chaos Agent #1While the Empire may have been defeated in the wake ofStar Wars’original trilogy,Luke Skywalkeris about to learn a hard truth about the galaxy. Set in the years just after the Battle of Jakku and the Empire’s official surrender, the New Republic has emerged as a new governing body. However, that doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and roses for the galaxy far, far away.

In Marvel’s newStar Wars: Doctor Aphra - Chaos Agent #2, Luke Skywalker is on a mission with Doctor Chelli Aphra, the galaxy’s foremost rogue archaeologist. Convincing the New Republic’s Department of Artifacts and Archival Goods Retrieval to recruit her, Luke enlists Aphra’s help to locate where a powerful gauntlet came from. However, Skywalker seems to think the mission should be easy simply because the New Republic’s now in charge.

Luke Skywalker Is In For A Rude Awakening

Improving The Galaxy Takes A Long Time…

Because they’ve come to a world officially aligned with the New Republic for a New Republic-sanctioned mission, Luke assumes that it would be in citizens' best interests to cooperate and work with them. However, Doctor Aphra confirms the real truth that “In many ways, nothing has changed.”

Despite the galaxy having just experienced a major regime change with the Empire’s defeat, many worlds have continued to operate just as they have been. This is especially true for wealthier and more influential worlds like Aargau. Planets continue to spin, and the lives of many beings simply don’t orbit much further beyond themselves and their everyday routines. After all, theStar Warsgalaxy is quite vast.

Nevertheless, Luke Skywalker continued to express optimism all the same. While he doesn’t expect everyone to welcome them with open arms, the feeling that things should be easier does feel a bit naive, and Doctor Aphra tells the Jedi as much. That said, you know things are about to take a turn when Skywalker flips one of the most classicStar Warslines on its head:

“I’ve got a good feeling about this.”

Although we’ve yet to see the full issue, I can guarantee after that line that things are about to get a lot harder for Luke and Doctor Aphra than Skywalker could ever have anticipated. Change on a galaxy-wide scale takes time, and it’s far too early in theNew Republic Erato assume that things have already improved for the better since the days of the Empire.
