For all intents and purposes,Star Wars#2 is the Crown of Verity’s first appearance inStar Wars, but it was introduced to the franchise’s lore earlier, in the 2016 RPG sourcebookNexus of Power, thoughits canon status was questionableup until this point. There is still much to be revealed about the Crown in subsequent issues ofStar Wars; issue #2 offers only a brief narration from Luke Skywalker, explaining that “the Crown was lost, or destroyed…or so the Jedithought,” and more importantly, bringing readers up to speed on what it does.

Noteworthy is Luke’s reaction to learning about the Crown’s survival, and location; he uncharacteristically runs off in the middle of a mission, which helps to establish that the Crown could be of staggering importance.

“Whoever wore the crown could see through any lie,” Luke states, “but at the same time, the wearer could not lie themselves.” Almost more noteworthy is Luke’s reaction to learning about the Crown’s survival, and location; he uncharacteristically runs off in the middle of a mission, which helps to establish that the Crown could be of staggering importance. Together, these narrative decisions seem to set up the Crown of Verity for a crucial role inStar Warscontinuity moving forward. For now, though, readers only have a vague idea of what that might be.

The Crown Of Verity’s Origins Evokes The Hallmarks Of The Early Star Wars Expanded Universe

One thing that will strike long-time fans of theStar WarsExpanded Universe about the Crown of Verity’s newfound prominence in the franchise is the way it has been plucked from a passing reference in a guide for a roleplaying game. At one point in thehistory of the Expanded Universe, RPG sourcebooks were essential to widening the scope of theStar Warsgalaxy. Most of these deep-cut details fell into obscurity, as the Crown of Verity seemingly had, but they were always there to be reclaimed and used in some novel way by futureStar Warscreators.

That is precisely whatStar Wars#2 does. The new story might retcon, or reinterpret, some of the precise details of the Crown of Verity, but it stilldemonstrates the virtue of mining priorStar Warsmaterial in order to find an exciting but under-utilized tidbit of franchise lore, tucked away in some rarely visited corner of the Expanded Universe. This is, presumably, part of the fun of writingStar Warsstories, just as it certainly adds a layer of enjoyment to reading them, especially for those hardcore fans who follow every detail.

What Role Will The Crown Of Verity Play In Star Wars History?

Star Wars#4; Written By Alex Segura; Art By Phil Noto; Available June 26, 2025 From Marvel Comics

Star Wars#3 will leave the cliffhanger from issue #2 dangling, shifting focus instead to a Han Solo/Land Calrissian team-up story set on Bespin.Star Wars#4, then, will seemingly return to Luke’s story, and add Leia to the mix. How the Crown of Verity will factor into the climax of this first arc is unknown, though the synopsis for the issue teases “an assassin unmasked…and it’s not who you expect,” suggesting the Crown will likely be used to uncover the truth.

Further, the synopsis forStar Wars#4 tells readers that “a message from the Clone Wars Era sends shock waves in the present.” Considering that Luke’s knowledge of the Crown of Verity came from Obi-Wan Kenobi’s journals, it is possible this message could concern the Crown, or at least will be found in Kenobi’s writings from the time of the Clown Wars. Beyond that, readers can only speculate how the Crown might play a role moving forward, butnow it is on the table for future stories as a powerfulStar Warsartifact.
