Just after Maggie and Cal’s lives returned to relative normality, Maggie’s husband arrived in town.
Readers could be forgiven for assuming that the last sentence was a mistake, but, according to Liam, this “Summer fling” whom Maggie never mentioned to anyone in the preceding three seasons was legally her husband. Obviously,Sullivan’s Crossingseason 4now seems destined to focus on this plot for the foreseeable future.

Jacob and Lola’s Relationship Highlights Her Character Growth
This is a shame, both because Maggie and Cal’s relationship doesn’t need more struggles and becauseSullivan’s Crossingseason 3 highlighted a potential new star for the show who deserves more screen time. Although she was the most annoying character in season 1, aside from argubably Andrew, Lola is now a more interesting heroine than Maggie.
Lola has become more mature than Maggie in season 3, and the fact that she was such a pain back in season 1 only makes this character’s growth more impressive and welcome.
Since her introduction,Lola has gone through a lot of character growth, and she has improved considerably. Her budding relationship with Frank’s cousin Jacob Cranebear, and especially the maturity of her decision to tell him to go back to college to finish pursuing his degree instead of staying in the small town with her, highlights just how far she’s come.

The Main Couple of Sullivan’s Crossing Have Been Through The Wringer Already
Since Lola was such an explosive, almost villainous figure so recently, her character growth since dealing with her childhood trauma feels all the more impressive. This makes her a more compelling character in season 4, whether Jacob returns or not, as she is now level-headed and stable, but viewers still recall her younger, more impulsive self.
Seeing Lola gain substantial insight from her life experience and pass it on to Jacob by deciding not to continue their relationship in season 3 was infinitely more exciting than the promise of another overly familiar Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 love triangle DWQDq. As such, the next outing of Sullivan’s Crossing should prioritise her story over Maggie and Cal’s repetitive plot.
