Many players will be familiar withSuper Mario Bros. 35, the battle royale-esque Switch title that lets players go head to head in classicSuper Mario Bros.style. Unfortunately,Super Mario’s 35th anniversary is endingat the tail-end of March 2021, which means thatSuper Mario Bros. 35will leave the Nintendo Switch eShop indefinitely.

As such, players won’t have too much longer to enjoySuper Mario Bros. 35and reach the end of the challenges that Nintendo has been adding to the game over the past couple of months. Sadly, it seems that players have failed to complete the second challenge Nintendo issued, which involved players defeating over 350 million Goombas by March 3, where players fell quite a bit short.

The confirmation of this news comes by way of Nintendo’s official Twitter account, where Nintendo tweeted that players managed to defeat 317,373,419 Goombas. Unfortunately, players would have had to kill an additional 32,626,581 more Goombas to have met the goal in time. While it may not seem like too much in comparison to the original 350 million goombas, it surely would have been quite the challenge to meet the goal by the deadline. While players did clear thefirst Bowser challenge inSuper Mario Bros. 35, it means that players will have to make up the difference with the third challenge coming later this month.

The reward for participating in and completing these challenges is 350 platinum points to redeem on the player’s Nintendo Account or the Nintendo Switch eShop. Nintendo introduced thefirstSuper Mario Bros. 35community challengein early January, which gave players until the end of the month to complete the goal. Though it’s yet to be confirmed this third challenge will likely run somewhat close to the end of the month, considering the game will disappear from the eShop soon after. Hopefully, players have much better luck on this final challenge.

Super Mario Bros. 35is available now on Nintendo Switch.
