Kind of an oxymoron, right?
Nintendo has revealed thatSuper Mario Odyssey’supcoming VR content won’t actually require Labo VR to be played. Similar to thetheater modeoption that was announced last week, the “VR Experiences” content in the Cap, Luncheon, and Seaside Kingdoms is fully playable without the cardboard headset. While it likely will lose some of its charms, no one is being left out in the cold on this.
As for what people with Labo VR gain, it will be 360-degree views of each area Mario is running around in. Similar to howBreath of the Wildutilizes VR, you can move your head to manipulate the camera or turn the option off, which is nice. It should be a fun little gimmick if nothing else.

As a reminder,Super Mario OdysseyandBreath of the Wildwill receive theirVR updates on June 13, 2025.
