Super Smash Bros. Ultimatejust recently added its first DLC fighter in the form ofPiranha Plant, but Nintendo has at least five more DLC characters coming to the game over the course of the next year. We already know thatPersona 5’s Joker is coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, and now game supervisor Kumazaki Shinya has taken to Instagram to possibly tease who will be coming to the game next.

On Instagram, Shinya has posted images of the shield seen in variousDragon Questgames. While this could just be a coincidence, it does line up with previous rumors, leaks, and speculation that the nextSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC fighter will be none other than Erdrick, the name given to various heroes from theDragon Questfranchise.

Having Erdrick fromDragon Questadded to theSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateroster makes a great deal of sense for a number of reasons. For one, theDragon Questfranchise started its life on the NES, and the vast majority of new entries have also released on Nintendo platforms as well.

Secondly, addingDragon Quest’s Erdrick toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatecould be used to boost the franchise’s presence in the west. We’ve seen this work withFire Emblemcharacters, and there’s no reason why it couldn’t work forDragon Questas well. Plus, withDragon Quest 11 Scoming to the Nintendo Switch, Erdrick’s addition toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatecould help advertise that game specifically.

If Erdrick is indeed coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateas the next DLC fighter afterPersona 5’s Joker, then it seems to lend some credibility to the leak that supposedly revealedall of the planned DLC fighters. Not only did that leak nameDragon Quest’s Erdrick as the next fighter after Joker, but it also said Ryu Hayabusa fromNinja Gaiden, Steve fromMinecraft, and DOOM Guy fromDoomwere also in the works as well.

While Shinya’s Instagram post can definitely be considered more evidence that Erdrick is in fact coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’s still far from a confirmation.Super Smash Bros. Ultimatefans will just have to stay tuned for an official reveal from Nintendo.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
