While critics have been mixed about some of Sheridan’s titles, there’s no question that his shows have highlighted some heavy-hitters with stars like Kevin Costner, Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, Jeremy Renner, and Nicole Kidman. Landmanfeatured a notable castthat also included Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, and Ali Larter, but it was Thornton who truly carried the gritty Texas-set series as the standout. If anyone should have ended Sheridan’s Emmy-less streak this year, it should have been Thornton for his gripping performance.

That’s not to say other cast members from Taylor Sheridan’s other TV projects don’t deserve recognition, butThornton notably led a brand-new story as a rough-around-the-edges landmanwhile somehow making the world surrounding the oil industry remarkably compelling.

Though Thornton couldn’t break Taylor Sheridan’s Emmys streak, there’s still hope for the future. Aside from the previously mentionedYellowstonespinoffs,Landmanseason 2 is happening. There are also new seasons ofTulsa King,Mayor of Kingstown, andLionesson the way. Maybe 2026 will break the streak.
