Starr’s Latest Project Is Topping The Charts
G20is dominating on streaming after a mixed response from critics. Directed by Patricia Riggen, the hit Prime Video action flick features Viola Davis starring as President Danielle Sutton, an Army veteran who is forced into action after terrorists take over the G20 summit in South Africa. Starr is back with another villainous performance in the movie, this time as terrorist leader Edward Rutledge, with otherG20cast membersincluding Anthony Anderson, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, Ramón Rodríguez, and Marsai Martin, among others.
New data fromReelgoodnow reveals thatG20is the number one title on streaming in the U.S. for the week of April 10 – 16. The Prime Video action flick beats a handful of other major new releases in the world of movies and TV, includingYour Friends and Neighbors(2025–),The Pitt(2025–),A Complete Unknown(2024), andThe Last of Us(2023–). The Response To The Prime Video Movie Explained
G20’s major success on streaming follows a less-than-stellar response from critics, with the mixed reviews leading to a 58% onRotten Tomatoes. Though the performances from Davis and Starr are highlights and there’s fun to be had with the ridiculous action,the movie has been criticized for its script, which some say is too formulaic. In hisG20reviewforScreenRant, Felipe Rangel awarded the movie a score of five out of 10, praising the fight sequences while taking issue with the film’s failed attempts to explore deeper themes:
Still, Starr did great with the thin material available, and Rutledge’s presence brought a sense of danger to the film. In the end, though, the movie had some good ideas and even made room for some shocking deaths, but both fake-outs it pulled were so obvious that my opinion ofG20was taken down a notch. With the film’s attempts at social commentary falling flat,G20turns into a paint-by-numbers actionerthat is merely serviceable.
G20has only a 51% Popcornmeter score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s clear that neither of these scores are slowing the movie down, at least not during its first week. Davis and Starr are both audience draws, despite the movie’s shortcomings. What will be interesting will be seeing whetherG20can continue its dominance on streaming in the weeks to come.
