Have I mentioned the Destructoid community has a great taste in games?

Knowing my penchant for habitually tinkering around with retro-inspired roguelike games that I dig up on Steam, community badass and all-around awesome person Phil Ken Sebben tapped me on the shoulder the other day to make sure that I didn’t miss out on Angry Toad Studios’ launch ofThe Depths of Tolagal, and I’m really glad that he did.

With an art style that looks to me heavily inspired by the earlierFinal Fantasytitles (of which I cut my first set of RPG teeth),Depthscould easily get lost in the shuffle of the many, many dungeon-crawlers sporting that look. Don’t let that fool you, though. Angry Toad’s manages to nail that “just-one-more-run” hook that I’ve grown to love in roguelikes.

If you’re a fan of the genre and patient enough to enjoy your roguelikes a bit on the tougher end of the scale,The Depths of Tolagalis rewarding. The $9.99 asking price might be a bit high for some but I feel that in my case, I definitely got my money’s worth.
