2025 has been anup-and-down year for horror so far.The year started slowly, with some disappointments from bothBlumhouseand A24. The former company released aversion ofWolf Manin January, which did poorly among critics and underwhelmed at the box office. Their track record did little to improve two months later withThe Woman in the Yard.

A24 had a tough start to the year as well, with bothOpusandDeath of a Unicornunderwhelming at the box office. They turned it around in terms of critical reviews with thewell-receivedBring Her Back, but even that had a slow box office.

On the other hand, the year has also seen some extremely successful horror movies.Sinnersended up being a massive box office hitfollowing its release in April. Following that wasFinal Destination: Bloodlines, a franchise horror feature that gained incredible traction.

One of the more successful companies for horror this year was Neon. They have already released the Stephen King adaptation,The Monkey, which did fairly well upon its February release. Pretty soon,Neon is preparing for the release of another horror film that has already gotten significant acclaim.

The New Indie Horror Movie Was A Hit Out Of Sundance

Two weeks from now will mark the release of the highly anticipated filmTogether. Directed by Michael Shanks, the body horror film follows the story of a married couple who, at a crossroads in their life, find themselves uniquely and horrifically intertwined. The filmfeatures real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie in the lead roles.

WhileTogetherreleases in theaters widely on July 30, the film has already become a huge hit at Sundance. It premiered at the acclaimed festival back in January, whereit garnered enough support to give it a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. While this score could shift, this is a great early sign forTogether.

One of its positive reviews came fromScreenRant’s Patrice Witherspoon, who gave the movie 8 out of 10 stars and praised its “squirm-worthy experience backed by great performances.” At the time of writing,Togetheris the highest-rated horror movie of 2025.This is notable in a year that boasts the impressive hitSinners, which is a tour de force of a film. The perfect Tomatometer makesTogetheran incredibly intriguing prospect in the theaters.
