Cyberpunk 2077andBack to the Future; it’s the mash-up no one knew they needed. Cyberpunk 2015 is what would happen ifCyberpunk 2077was aBack to the Future Part 2game, set in the futuristic, dystopian Hill Valley from “2015.”

The parody trailer features the exact same soundtrack and narration fromCyberpunk 2077’s E3 2018 cinematic trailer, only with scenes fromBack to the Future 2in place of the visuals. The result is an absolute treat.

The trailer introduces 2015 Hill Valley with the narrator saying “In 2077, they voted my city the worst place to live in America,” a minor continuity issue and probably the only thing holding this beautiful parody back from absolute perfection. Production value is top notch, with the sound effects, dialogue, and music precisely matched to the scenes pulled fromBack to the Future Part 2. If the visuals were rendered like video game animations, it would pass as a legitimate trailer for Back to the Future Part 2: The Game.

Many ofBack to the Future Part 2’s most memorable moments are included in the trailer, like the giant shark hologram snapping at Marty, the self-lacing Nike shoes, and of course the flying DeLorean time machine. The doomed Hill Valley of 2015 fits perfectly with the narration, and the edited scenes couldn’t be more in sync with the trailer’s hyped-up soundtrack.

Much has been made ofCyberpunk 2077’s actual dystopia and dreary atmosphere, elements that surely helped attract mainstream attention since the game was introduced in 2013 with a slick, stylish trailer. And for those wondering why, 5 years later, they’re getting a Back to the Future mash-up before the real game, there’s actually a very valid reason for the delay.

Reasons aside, the recent revelation thatCyberpunk 2077 could very well still be a few years awayis tough to swallow. And for that reason, this lighthearted mashup with a series that has its own take on the future may provide a well-needed laugh during these difficult times.
