Warning: Contains SPOILERS for X-Men #20!Mutants with all sorts of amazing superpowers have been members of theX-Men, but it is far rarer for X-Men’s tech to have superpowers as well. But, rare or not, that’s the situation, as Marvel just revealed the X-Men’s plane has an incredible (and incredibly useful) superpower.

InX-Men#20 by Jed MacKay and Netho Diaz, the X-Men are recovering after a battle with amutant terrorist group led by Cassandra Nova. They are working together to clean up their base and rebuild everything that was destroyed, including and especially theirnew plane, dubbed the Marauder. Lucky for them, however, the Marauder is a pretty easy fix.

As explained by Kid Omega, the Marauder has self-repairing capabilities, so long as most of its parts are near the plane’s ‘brain center’. It may take some time for the ship to repair itself, but the fact that it can do so at all is beyond amazing and incredibly useful for asuperhero team like the X-Men.

The X-Men’s New War Plane Has The Ability To Self-Repair

While it would become the X-Men’s plane, the Marauder (or, technically, the Marauder II) did not start out as a man-made aircraft. The Marauder was originally a highly advanced alien spacecraft. As Kid Omega explained when revealing that the plane has self-repairing capabilities, “The Marauder’s a bio-mechanical shape-shifting UFO with telepathic avionics”.

The aforementioned ‘brain center’ of the Marauder is its living memory core. It’s from there that the Marauder can rebuild itself, since it literally remembers what it’s like to be a fully functional plane, and returns itself to that form with its shape-shifting powers. The only catch is that its parts need to be recovered and placed near the memory core, but that’s way easier than rebuilding a whole plane.

The X-Men’s Marauder is Way, Way Better Than The Iconic Blackbird

While strange, the fact that the Marauder can repair itself makes it way better than the X-Men’s previous (and iconic) warplane, the Blackbird. Long-time X-Men fans know that the Blackbird has been in its share of scraps with a great number of villains in the past, and anytime it got destroyed, the X-Men would have to repair it. Now, that’s not something the mutant heroes need to worry about.

Giving the team’s warplane mutant powers is certainly a peculiar editorial choice from theX-Mencreative team. Still, it’s also an undeniably awesome upgrade, one that makes theX-Menan even more efficient team of superheroes than they already were.
