The horror genre seems to be a natural fit for virtual reality, with countlessVR horror gamesalready on the market and in development. Now at Ubisoft’s E3 2017 press conference, yet another VR horror project has been announced in the form of a psychological thriller calledTransference.

Transference, which will also be playable outside of VR, was introduced at E3 by Elijah Wood in a creepy trailer with a lot of live-action footage. Fans should be able to expect the final game to incorporate live-action visuals along with traditional game graphics, asTransferencepromises to “bridge the gap between movies and games.”

WhileTransferenceis likely to utilize live-action footage in the final product, what’s unclear is if the people seen in the E3 2017 trailer will be featured in the game itself, besidesGreen Roomactor Macon Blair.Elijah Wood, for example, is listed as a “partner” in the game’s development, but Ubisoft hasn’t clarified if he will be playing a character in the strange new horror game.

For those confused by the trailer, Ubisoft has since revealed details aboutTransference’s plot. According to Ubisoft, the game is about the player exploring the minds of a “fractured family” to discover what happened to them, all the while influencing their fate through player-choice. This will create a branching narrative that should encourage players to replay the game and see how they can change the plot.

Otherwise, further details onTransferenceare few and far between. We know that the game is being built with VR in mind, and will be compatible with motion controllers likePlayStation Move, but besides that, much of the game is still shrouded in mystery. It’s possible that more information onTransferencewill come to light over the course of E3 week, but if not, fans can expect more info as we near its spring 2018 release date.

Transferencewill be available spring 2018 for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, PC, PlayStation VR, PS4, and Xbox One.
