Warning: Spoilers for Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1!Marvel’s next crossover forGodzillacould gift the Kaiju his ownVenomsymbiote, taking his reign of terror to a whole new level. One of my favorite highlights of 2025 has been Godzilla’s takeover of the Marvel Universe. Through a series of one-shots, the colossal monster has been clashing with various Marvel heroes, and this thrilling saga is set to continue.

Godzilla vs. Spider-Man#1will pit Peter Parker against the King of the Monsters, and it’ll be set as a period piece from whenSpider-Man still had the Venom symbioteas a black suit. Below, readers can find a special preview of the issue, which will officially be available in digital stores and local comic book shops starting June 15, 2025. You can also find Nick Bradshaw’s gorgeous cover art.

I think setting this during such a pivotal point in Peter’s life is no accident. Personally, I don’t buy into coincidences, soI’m willing to bet top dollar that Venom is making an appearance.Given the timing of this period piece, it feels like the perfect setup for the symbiote to join the chaos, bringing a whole new layer of tension to the battle between Spider-Man and Godzilla.

Could Godzilla Fuse with the Venom Symbiote in the New Spider-Man Crossover?

Godzilla vs. Spider-Man#1 by Joe Kelly, Nick Bradshaw, and VC’s Joe Caramagna

Spider-Man was the first host of the Venom symbiote. Well, not the first canonically, as that honorbelongs to Deadpool. However,Peter was the first person readers saw bonded with the symbiotewhen it debuted in the comics. While most associate Eddie Brock with Venom, it’s hard not to think of Peter Parker when the black suit is mentioned. After all, he was the first to wear it, and that iconic image is forever tied to his time with the symbiote.

This connection is likely intentional on the part of the creative team. Writer Joe Kelly knows exactly what the black suit represents for Spider-Man fans, even though Peter eventually replaces the alien symbiote with a fabric version of the black suit. Let’s be honest, though:when Spider-Man suits up in black, no one is thinking about the cloth version. They’re thinking about when he once wore that iconic alien goop.

Venomized Godzilla extends its tongue.

Assuming this is a deliberate move by Kelly and co., then surely there’s a reason to make this a period piece. Peter Parker is still actively protecting New York today asyour friendly neighborhood Spider-Man; therefore, this story could theoretically take place in modern times. But it doesn’t. It takes place at a time when Peter is regularly wearing an alien from outer space that can attach itself to anyone and anything. Why is that? In my opinion, it’s primarily to give audiences the moment when Godzilla acquires the Venom symbiote.

The Venom symbiote makes its first Marvel appearance when it latches onto Spider-Man inThe Amazing Spider-Man#252, becoming his living costume. While this does take place after the events ofMarvel Super Heroes Secret Wars#8,Secret Wars#8 (released months later) would detail exactly how Peter acquires the suit.

Gaining Venom Would Continue an Epic Ongoing Trend for Godzilla

How Marvel Has Continuously Boosted Godzilla’s Power in Crossover Events

What truly convinces me that Godzilla will gain the Venom symbiote is that this wouldn’t be the first time in this Marvel takeover experiment that the big green giant has received a power upgrade. In each Marvel one-shot thus far, Godzilla has always gained a power-up. Previously, the Kaiju’s most powerful iterationarrived in Ryan North, John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna, and Marcio Menyz’sGodzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1.In it,the Silver Surfer passed down his Power Cosmic to Godzilla.

Elsewhere, Gerry Duggan, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Daniele Orlandini, and Federico Blee’sGodzilla vs. Hulk#1created the most overpowered GodzillawhenBruce Banner injected his gamma-radiated blood into Godzilla’s body. The whole point of a crossover like this with Marvel is to put Godzilla in unique scenarios that could only ever happen in the Marvel Universe, and the creative team has taken full advantage every time by putting the big ‘Zilla in such fun situations. What’s more fun than a huge beast terrorizing the city with an alien tattooed on him?

Godzilla and Venom: The Ultimate Crossover Potential

How a Godzilla/Venom Hybrid Could Rewrite Marvel History

I know that if I were writing for Godzilla and had access to Marvel’s lore at my fingertips, I’d commit to conceptualizing the coolest thing I could possibly imagine for Godzilla. Probably the coolest thing I could imagine is fusing Venom with Godzilla. What’s even more impressive is understanding how a Godzilla/Venom hybrid alters Marvel history. This effectively places Godzilla between Spider-Man and Eddie Brock as Venom’s hosts, as the story predates Eddie’s transformation into Venom. Canon can be tricky to decipher with crossovers like this, but until specified otherwise, readers can assume this story is canon to Earth-616.

In anticipation ofGodzilla x Kong: The New Empirehitting theaters in 2024, Marvel released a variant cover forVenom#37, imagining whatGodzilla’s ultimate formcould look like if the monster king ever bonded to the King in Black. Variant covers don’t always reflect what happens in the actual comic and, most of the time, don’t reflect canon, just a dream scenario. Now, however, Marvel fans like myself could wake up one day to see the dream ofVenomandGodzillacoming together as a reality, and I think that’s a pretty safe bet to make.
