Visceral Games, known for titles likeDead Space, was closed by EA last year and around the same time, it was announced that aStar Warsgame the studio had been working on was basically cancelled and being taken over by EA Vancouver. EA’s reasoning for the move was that itfelt the game was too linear. Since then, there hasn’t been much news regarding that title and it now seems some light has been shed on it.
Speaking with Eurogamer at the Gamelab conference taking place in Barcelona, Amy Hennig, who createdUnchartedand was working on Visceral’sStar Warsgame, provided some information. She stated that the story her and Visceral had been working on was shelved and that theStar Warsgame EA Vancouver is now working on is “something pretty different” from what she had originally envisioned and started work on.
She also briefly mentioned that she is no longer with EA and has not been with the company since January, which she also posted on her Twitter. She is currently working on opening her own independent studio and not working on anythingStar Warsrelated. Earlier this year, she talked more in-depth about the closure of Visceral andEA’s decision to cancelthe studio’sStar Warsgame and move it over to EA Vancouver.
Many were excited at the prospect of a single-player focused game in theStar Warsuniverse, especially after Disney cancelledStar Wars 1313shortly after it acquired theStar Warsfranchise. One of the big reasons for this, is that there hasn’t been aStar Warsgame that was a single-player, story-driven experience in a while. The most recent games in the universe, likeStar Wars Battlefront 2, have been primarily multiplayer experiences.
The title EA Vancouver is working on isn’t the onlyStar Warsgame EA has planned, though. At E3, a brief trailer was shown off announcing that Respawn, the studio behindTitanfall, was working on aStar Warstitle, too. Not much information was given on the game, outside of its title, release window and that it takes place between Episodes 3 and 4. The game is calledStar WarsJedi Fallen Orderand is expected to release holiday 2019.
