Fortnitehas been building to a pre-Season 10 event for a while now, and Saturday morning Epic Games once again delivered. For some, the expectation may have been a little too high as far as what effects the event would have on the game, but this was still something unique for players to enjoy.

As rumored and speculated, theFortniteseason 9 eventfeatured an alien creature appearing to seemingly wreak havoc on the map. The creature had a polar castle on top of its head, a single eye, and could far a massive laser blast.

However, the creature’s opportunity to cause real damage was short lived as themech/robot that was being constructedinFortnitefinally went online. Like something out ofPacific Rim, the robot and the monster did battle and eventually the robot claimed victory after brandishing a massive sword and impaling the creature. The robot then did a one-armed Floss dance and then rocketed off into the sky.

The production value on theseFortniteevents has always been high, but this was arguably a new peak for Epic Games. Yes, the map wasn’t completely destroyed like many speculated and hoped but a robot and monster battle in the midst of a battle royale experience is not something you see every day.

The choreography of the battle and the pacing were enough to keep players engaged beyond just a basic boxing match. Epic Games clearly planned out some key moments using theFortniteSeason 9 map, even letting the mech use the vault to gain a special power.

As a result of the event,Fortnitehas also unvaulted the jetpack for a limited time in all modes except competitive. Players can zip around the map and avoid fall damage like in the old days, but we’ll see how long it lasts.

Now, players wait to see if there are any after-effects from the battle and clues towardsFortniteSeason 10. Epic Games has yet to confirm whenFortniteSeason 10 starts, but most assume that it will likely kick off on August 1st. That’s becauseFortniteSeason 9 is supposed to include the entirety of theFortniteWorld Cup, including the finals events which are set for the end of July.
