Outside of actual video games, a lot of creative people have been able to make some incredible stuff in Unreal Engine, oftentimesusing Unreal Engine to recreate popular games likeAmong Us,Metal Gear Solid, andHalf-Life 2. Now amateur creators have even more tools to work with, as loads of assets from the indie darlingWhat Remains of Edith Finchare now available for anyone to use free of charge.

Epic Games announced today that Giant Sparrow’s award-winning exploration of death, memories, and family has been added to the Unreal Marketplace Collection, an initiative that effectively gives away large amounts of official Unreal Engine game assets. BeforeWhat Remains of Edith Finch, it’s been used to make assets from older Epic titles likeInfinity BladeandParagonavailable to all Unreal creators.

Thanks to a partnership with Giant Sparrow and publisher Annapurna Interactive, the Collection now includes over 3,000 high quality meshes, textures and materials from the game that anyone can download. These cover the Finch family’s home, complete with each member’s distinctive room and furnishings, along with a few other environments fromWhat Remains of Edith Finch’s memorable flashback sections.

This is just one example of the ways people have been able to use Unreal Engine for more than official video game development, such as howUnreal Engine has been used on TV shows likeThe MandalorianandWestworld. Better yet, Epic Games says the Giant Sparrow/Annapurna partnership is the first in a series of collaborations with “teams across the community,” so it looks like creators will be able to download assets from other games on the Unreal Marketplace in the near future.

What Remains of Edith Finchis available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
