Black Ops 2 is Still Considered One of the Best in the Franchise
Bringing the franchise back toCall of Duty: Black Ops 2sounds like a very smart decision because, after all of these years, the game is still considered one of the best in the franchise. UntilGTA V, it was even the largest entertainment launch of all time. Players seemed to love its gameplay loop, its riveting story, and pretty much every aspect of the title.
Black Ops 2took the fantastic narrativethat Treyarch built withBlack Opsto the next level. This time, players got to explore two separate time periods through the eyes of Alex Mason and his son David. What ensued was a riveting adventure that kept players on the edge of their seats throughout. And the best part was that there were multiple endings depending upon what players did, which really rewarded multiple playthroughs.
Outside the campaign,Black Ops 2also featured a fantastic Zombies mode throughthe unique TranZit modeand an exhilarating multiplayer mode. While the game was not perfect, all of this made for a great package that players did not want to put down. However, instead of building upon those foundations, Treyarch took the story in an entirely different direction withBlack Ops 3and completely removed it forBlack Ops 4.
A Sequel Could Bring Black Ops Back To Its Roots
After theBlack Opsseries changed drastically, fans have been yearning for it to return to its roots. So,Black Ops: Cold Warwas released, which served as a sequel to the originalBlack Ops. And while it may not have been the most groundbreaking, fans seemed to love it. Because of that success, it makes complete sense that Treyarch would build upon it.
Now thatBlack Opsfans have gotten a true continuation of the beloved subseries, many of them seem to be craving more. If the rumors are to be believed, that is exactly what the studio has planned for 2025. This time, it will allegedly expand uponthe story ofBlack Ops 2with a full-fledged sequel. Not only will that likely be a fantastic return to form for the franchise, but it may also give fans the story thatBlack Ops 3never could.
Instead of rebootingBlack Ops, Treyarch seems committed to expanding upon its strong foundations with even more stories. So far, that plan seems to be working, and hopefully, this rumoredBlack Ops 2sequel continues that trend. WhileBlack Ops 3and4may have pushed some players away from the subseries, these titles may be exactly what players have been looking for.
